Spring Trends 2023

As you dive into this blog and see what the latest trends are for this upcoming Spring/Summer season please remember, don’t go overboard with seasonal trends. Always build your wardrobe off foundation pieces (think capsule style wardrobe) then each season sprinkle in a trend or two that compliments your personal style and current wardrobe, making it easy to create interchangeable outfits. Also, make note that not every trend is for everyone! Adding seasonal trends can freshen up  your wardrobe and keep your personal style looking current. If you’re someone who isn’t interested in trends and enjoys adding classic pieces each season take note, loafers, cool sneakers, vegan leather and oversize looks are still on point and will easily keep your wardrobe feeling fresh & up to date.

Check out some of my favorite trends to add into your wardrobe this Spring/Summer!

Ballet Flats

This is a trend that I’m definitely happy has made a comeback, I remember wearing my Tory Burch soles down to nothing in the early 2000’s. Tory Burch has stayed consistent with her ballet flat the Reva, it’s stuck around even when flats weren’t on trend, because as much as the style seemed dated they were comfortable! When a trend comes back full circle and is super comfy how can we say no. This is a great accessory to add into a classic capsule wardrobe.

Lilac / Shades Of Purple

Each season there is a colour or two that has a major moment. Last Spring it was a bright kelly green and this year it’s shades of purple, most popular being the lilac shade.  When adding the colour of the season, remember it may not be the right shade for you skin tone when it comes to apparel but this doesn’t mean you can’t add the colour into your wardrobe. Handbags & accessories in a shade of purple can be a great way to elevate an outfit and refresh your look for the season.

Cargo’s

Cargo pants have made a comeback this season, there are many different cuts & styles for this look. I personally can not do the wide leg in denim with my shape so when I saw the big push in a wide leg cargo, I thought hmmm this trend might not be for me. Thankfully there is numerous styles and cuts for the cargo pant. This is a trend that isn’t for everybody but worth checking out, so many different options/brands. I ended up with a $49 pair for Zara that has a straight leg vs a wide leg and I hemmed them to above the ankle so they tied into my personal style.

Denim On Denim

We have all heard about the Canadian Tuxedo, but have you actually tried wearing it? This Spring/Summer is the perfect season to play with paring different denim pieces together, mixing shades of denim or different textures. Another great way to create a mix of denim is by adding a denim slide sandal or denim handbag.

Maxi Skirts

Maxi or long skirts aren’t the easiest piece to incorporate into the wardrobe or style into an everyday look. We think of a maxi being worn more for a vacation style normally.  This season, this look is being mixed into a crisp capsule wardrobe, how? When purchasing a long skirt stick to a neutral colour or denim and style it with a foundation top, nothing  to over the top something more classic. Slide sandals are ideal for these skirts. If you’d like to dress it up for an evening out, swap your flat sandal for a strappy heel.
