Why this Stylist says NO to brand commissions
When hiring a personal stylist, it’s easy to focus solely on their portfolio and style. You want someone whose aesthetic aligns with yours and who makes you feel comfortable during this personal process. However, there is one critical question you should always ask; does the stylist accept commissions from brands?
There can be a common misconception that stylists act as salespeople, at Mabelle Style, we maintain a ‘no-commission’ policy since we’ve started. Why? Here are three fundamental reasons why we choose to be transparent and say no to kickbacks.
- A professional stylist should have an uncompromising eye for detail, trends, and fits that are tailored specifically to the client. The moment commission enters the equation, ones personal style can be compromised. Mabelle Style believes being 100% honest about what works and what doesn’t.
- When stylists make money from specific brands, they are incentivized to share and shop only at those stores/brands. Mabelle Style charges flat rate packages which means we source and shop from any brand or store that serves the clients best interest and goals. This also ensures ones wardrobe is curated based on quality and personal style, not on additional fees.
- Most importantly, the relationship between a stylist and a client can be personal. We are creating style for ones body shape, we learn about personal goals and insecurities. During some level of vulnerability, you wouldn’t want to feel pressured. The goal is to build confidence and have you looking your best.
