Personal Stylist | Investing In Your Wardrobe

TIME TO INVEST IN YOUR WARDROBE What areas of my wardrobe do I need to invest in? When clients book personal shopping packages, under the 'what's your budget' question in the questionnaire they often answer I don't know, because they have no idea what the cost would be to put together new outfits and a wardrobe for the season. One area of my job as a stylist is to educate them on what categories they need to invest in (pay a little bit more) and what categories they can save in.  I'm going to share with you the top categories I suggest investing a bit more and why. Always be mindful of price per wear when investing, if you're going to use or wear something specific all the time then it's worth spending a bit more for best fits, quality etc. Also, don't forget quality over quantity.  If you tend to have too much stuff in your wardrobe and you end up wearing only the 20% you can see, the rest gets hidden or stuck in the back of the closet. Before I run through my top investment categories, here is a little food for thought to give you an idea of what clients spend during a personal shopping package, remember this is for a seasonal wardrobe update, which means about a 2 week rotation

Travel In Style

It finally seems like travel is back, with long lines up to get your passport, long lineups for quick drives to the boarder, or long line ups at the airport. Whichever way your travelling right now, it's busy. Before you head out for your next trip, the stresses of packing begin.  What am I going to wear? How can I pack less? As you go through your vacation clothes that haven't been worn in the past two+ years, you may be thinking, do these even fit anymore? Are any of these clothes cool anymore? To get you on the right track, I'm sharing some packing tips and must-have seasonal trends for your travels. *Make a list. Write down what you wear each day / evening and only pack those items. *Have shoes that can mix & match with different outfits as you never want to pack a ton of shoes, they take up so much space! *Pack top & bottom sets and monochromatic pieces (meaning 2-3 colours per outfit that can mix and match.) This can simplify making interchangeable outfits and help you pack a little less. *Roll instead of fold all the apparel going into the luggage, this will create more space. Below I've shared some images of my must haves for travelling ~ Longchamp large bag. It folds up into your luggage, it fits a lot

Fashion Stylist | Shop With Intention

Shop with intention What does it mean to shop with intention? Go into the stores or begin your online search with a plan. Know your style, what you want/need and what styles fit you best before you start. You will end up making the best purchases for your wardrobe, you will LOVE how you feel in your outfits and you can stop making those impulse buys. Check out my tips below, if followed you will be shopping with intention before you know it! Each season create a shopping list of the items you need to update/refresh your wardrobe.  If you're unsure how to build this list, do a read through on trends that are happening for the season and go through your current wardrobe to see what you'd like to update.  When it's time to shop, pull out your list and shop for only those items. You will be more focused, avoid making impulse or bad purchases. Having a shopping budget for the season, with an idea of which items you'd like to spend more on (investments) and the pieces you know you can save on. You could do a budget per item or have a total budget for the season, which ever works best for you. When creating a budget think price per wear and quality over quantity. Don't buy it just because

Shop Spring Trends 2022

Shop 2022 Spring Trends If you have a minimal capsule style wardrobe or prefer classic clean looks, you still want to sprinkle in a trend or two each season. It is a great way to keep your wardrobe up to date and fresh.  I don't suggest shopping every trend or a bunch of trendy pieces each season, only pieces that really suit your personal style and work with your current wardrobe. Not every trend is for everyone! Why? First off, you want to be able to create interchangeable outfits and if your wardrobe is solely based on trendy items, it will become a challenge to create multi-functional looks. Secondly, when your wardrobe is very full, especially with lots of random pieces and you keep adding more items, you won't be able to see what is actually in your wardrobe.  When this happens, people often wear only 20% of their wardrobe, the items they can see and are easy to wear. With that, I am sharing some wearable trends for Spring 2022 that will be easy to work into your wardrobe this season. Check them out below! Spring 2022 COLOURS I often recommend classic neutrals dominate your wardrobe (easiest way to create multi-functional outfits!) But adding a bold pop of colour this Spring 2022 is a

Fashion Stylist | Dress For Your Body Type

Dress For Your Body Type One of the most common challenges I hear from potential clients looking to hire a fashion stylist, "I can't find anything that fits my body type." Insert the expert stylist, I specialize in knowing brands that work for a range of different body types and most importantly I will share styling tricks to ensure your consistently featuring the most flattering areas of your body. Check out the chart above to define your shape and read below to learn style tips that will enhance your style. *Balance your fits, if you're wearing something lose or wide on top, stream line the outfit by having a tailored or cropped bottom,  this creates a slimming effect. If you have a fitted or tucked top add a belt and wear a straight, wide or lose bottom. *Colours and prints, keep it simple by only having three colours max in your outfit (head to toe.) If you incorporate a print,  pull an alternate colour from the print into your

Fashion Stylist | Sneaker Style Tips

Sneaker Style Tips The cool sneaker is no longer just for lounge wear and comfies. Sneaker style has really evolved and taken over any high heel purchases we once made.  Styling the comfortable shoe into a cool street style vibe, business casual or even with an elevated dress or suit is happening...even in the workplace! You may be thinking, I like the idea of a sneaker style but how do I incorporate that look into my personal wardrobe and get it right? A few tips, find yourself a brand & style that you love and make sure the style falls within your budget. I say budget because cool sneakers are ranging from the basic converse at $70 all the way up to designer, starting at $700!  There is a big range in price points for these looks, which is great because everyone has the opportunity to create sneaker style outfits without breaking the budget. For my personal style, I just can't do the chunky sneaker, sometimes called the 'dad' sneaker. I prefer a street style look, effortless like I'm not trying to hard but still speak fashion. I also don't love a lot of branding on the shoes, which designers often do, keep it simple. I've shard some links to my favorite brands in a range of budgets below and Style inspiration to get you started (from pinterest)

Fashion Stylist | Curated Personal Shopping List

My Curated Seasonal Personal Shopping List I recently did a poll on Instagram for what followers would like to see more of and I received an overwhelming response to  share my curated personal shopping list for this Fall. Firstly, why do I make seasonal personal shopping lists for myself and Mabelle Style clients? It's a great way to avoid impulse buys and bad purchases as well as keeps you from buying more then actually need. When you get to a place where you have a wardrobe filled with items you not only love but you actually wear,  you can then follow a curated shopping list each season to shop for items that work with your current wardrobe. You may have a few staples / basics that need replacing (like my boring black puffer coat you'll see below) and you will likely want to add a couple of trendy items to keep the wardrobe refreshed each season.  I also use a unit amount as a guideline so I don't overbuy a specific category. I personally prefer less is more in my wardrobe and I like to invest on better quality items, but it did take me awhile to get my wardrobe to that ideal place.  Once I completed my wardrobe edit last week and pulled some items to consign, I began my list.

Do my work clothes still fit?  How do I dress for the office? Or an even deeper thought could be how does one interpret what business casual means in their work place? DETAILS The smallest details can change an entire outfit from unprofessional & schleppy to polished & approachable.  Take tucking for example, it's a simple 2 second step when getting ready in the morning that transforms your look.
