Holiday Party Looks
It’s that time of year again, holiday parties & family gatherings are coming up. The stress ensues…. what do I wear???
The first step, you need to know if there is a dress code for the occasion. It could be dressy casual, semi-formal, themed or black tie. Once you get an idea of the environment of the event, you’ll have an easier time narrowing down what you need to shop for. Here are few tips –
Family Gathering think comfortable, with a sprinkle of holiday vibes. You can do this by incorporating holiday colours into your outfit (green, red, white and gold.) Or a little sparkle, sweaters are a great way to make this work. You have the option to wear trousers, jeans or a cute skirt to finish off the effortless, approachable holiday look.
Themed Event this happens for me personally every holiday season as we have a themed fundraiser at the end of November. When you have a theme, this can be much more challenging (Pinterest anyone?) The first step is to zero in on the theme, the second is to navigate where you can find an outfit that is cohesive to the theme and lastly don’t forget accessories! Accessories are the easiest way to make a simple dress/outfit become a themed look. My cover photo for this blog was a holiday outfit for a ‘boots & bling’ themed event. I went for a sparkly knit dress & earrings (bling) with fancy sky high booties that had a large leather bow.
Work Holiday Party is the most requested holiday party look I get to work with. Showing up to a work event could feel out of your comfort zone, you may be use wearing your usual work uniform. Now you have step it up and come to an event in something very non work related. I’d suggest looking into the location, this is key to knowing how dressed up you need to be as well as having an understanding of what your workplace culture is like.
Black Tie when you’re walking around the malls do you ever see stores that sell outfits for black tie? Very rarely, especially since Nordstroms has been gone. There isn’t a lot of Brix & Mortar shops anymore for this market, which is why I’m busy doing online shopping packages for gala’s, wedding guests and other fancy events. There is a lot of options virtually, but that can be even more challenging if you don’t know brands and fits. I do suggest shopping for these types of events virtually, but with guidance (like a stylist) to save you from making online shopping mistakes.
